With a sustainable house in Dubai competition

by Katia Brega
Fifty students from Sapienza University of Rome were selected for the Solar Decathlon: an international competition born in 2002 that was already hosted in the United States of America, China, Colombia, Madrid and Versailles. This year the 20 competing teams must submit by next June a sustainable house project, focusing on renewable sources, innovative materials and advanced automation systems. After that, they will have two years to build and bring it to Dubai, where this Solar Decathlon edition is taking place, in October 2018. The house, designed by the team from Sapienza University, will be built in the CEFME-CTP Center in Pomezia and, just like the others, will be showed from October up to November 2018 in Dubai in order to be evaluated by the jury. During the competition, all of the 20 teams will be asked to prepare some dinner events in their own house hosting the other competitors: each house will need to be equipped with an electric car charged by the house system. During the construction phase and at the end of the competition these houses will be also laboratories open to public for a training on sustainable architecture and renewable energy sources integration…
